Uses and Benefits
Elocon Cream 10gm is used to treat certain skin conditions such as pain, redness, swelling, warmth or itching. However, the uses mentioned here are not exhaustive. There may be other conditions for which this medication may be used upon a doctor’s discretion.
Composition
The active ingredient of Elocon Cream 10gm is Mometasone Furoate 0.1% w/W.
Mechanism of Action of Drugs
Mometasone Furoate stimulates certain natural substances in the body that help reduce allergy, itching, and redness, etc.
Contraindications and Caution
Patients with the following conditions are suggested to seek advice from their health care professional before applying the Elocon Cream 10gm:
- Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients used in the Elocon Cream 10gm such as Mometasone Furoate
- Diaper dermatitis use
- Caution:
- Skin infection
- Pediatric patients
Side and Adverse Effects
The following side effects may or may not occur during the usage of Elocon Cream 10gm. It is generally well tolerated when taken in the prescribed dosage guidelines. More common ones are generally mild and may include:
- Burning
- Pruritus
- Irritation
- Dryness
- Folliculitis
- Telangiectasia
- Paresthesia
- Hypertrichosis
- Acneiform dermatitis
- Hypopigmentation
- Perioral dermatitis
- Allergic contact dermatitis
- Secondary infection
- Skin atrophy
- Striae
- Miliaria
How to Use
Before applying the cream, wash your hands with water and wipe dry.
Apply only a thin layer of Elocon cream topically on the affected area, and not rub it harshly.
Wash your hands after applying the Cream unless the affected area is the hands itself.
Contact with eyes may cause a burning sensation, therefore ensure you wash hands well after application.
Continue to use the Cream till the prescribed length of course.
Overdosage
Avoid using more than the prescribed dosage. In case of an accidental overdose, look for any new symptoms. If you observe any, promptly seek medical advice or report it to the nearby poison control center.
Warnings and Precautions
Use Elocon Cream 10gm only on the advice of a medical practitioner. Dosage adjustment or complete avoidance of the medication may be required in the following conditions:
Pregnancy:
May be used during pregnancy. However, talk to your doctor before using it.
Lactation:
Safety during lactation is unknown. Therefore, inform your doctor before using it.
Precautions
- Keep the medicine out of sight and reach of children.
- Store at room temperature away from heat and moisture.
- Do not use the medicine beyond its expiry.
FDA Pregnancy Category
Category C: Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant the use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.
